User Experience and User Interface

Updated: Feb 3, 2020

User Interface,

the dictionary definition for User interface is 'the means by which the user and a computer system interact, in particular the use of input devices and software.'

The user interface,or UI, is the point of human to computer interaction and the communication that is in a device. Examples of this are display screens, keyboards, a mouse and the appearance of a desktop. Another example of this is the way a person interacts with applications or websites.

Due to the growth of dependence of many businesses on web and mobile applications has lead companies to make UI a priority as it increases the users overall experience.

UI has evolved with as the command line interface was introduced, this first appeared as a nearly blank display screen with a line for user input.

the users used a keyboard and a set of commands to construct and exchange information with the computer. the command line interface led to one in which menus.

The popularity of mobile applications also affected UI creating 'Mobile UI'

User Experience,

The dictionary definition for User Experience is 'the overall experience of a person using a product such as a website or computer application, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.'

User experience, (UX) design is a process design teams use when they are creating products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. this includes designing whole processes of products. examples include elements in branding, design, usability and function.

UX design covers many areas. A UX designer has to contribute the entire process of acquiring and integrating a product, this includes aspects of usability and function. its like a story that begins before the device is even in the user's hands.

UX designers have to consider why, what and how of the products use. The why involves the users' motivations for using the product, whether they relate to a task they wish to preform with it or to values and views which users associate with the ownership and use of the product. UX designers start with the why before determining the what and then, finally, the how in order to create products that users can form meaningful experiences with. In software designs, they need to ensure the product's "substance" comes through an existing device and offers improvements.

UI is often talked about in conjunction with user experience (UX)

this may include tasks such as aesthetic appearances, response times and the content that is presented to the user within the context of the user interface.

Both UI and UX fall under the concept of human-computer interaction, which is the field of study focusing on the creation of computer technology and interaction between humans and all forms of IT design.
