Women within Propaganda posters


Within propaganda that included images of women, Images of motherhood were often presented to sybolise national security, sanctity of homes and also thier duty to the country and their families. As well as this, The posters would also portray women in need of protection and passive with empthasis of women sacrificing their sons willingly to the war to fight for their country.

These methods were used to provoke a nationalistic attitude towards the motherland, being pure and noble and different to other countries.

To also create a much stronger, provoked reaction, In the 20th century, Women were also portrayed as victims of rape to symbolise the brutality of the 'enemy' and also women were portrayed as 'Traitors' due to 'Gossip' which created domestic survillience.



'Women Workers take up your rifles' - 1917


Within soviet Poropganda posters in the 1920s-1930s, women were portrayed as larger than life scaled which reflected their new economic role and importance due to the war, although, in realitiy, there was still a large gender inequality and Women had no power officially.

This poster contrasted the idea that women in Nazi germany had to stay at home and do motherly duties such as child care and house work as well as portraying national community.

This piece of propaganda shows that the male model workers show more of an interest when talking to the chairman in contrast with the woman placed behind who seems to be more focused on the handsome leader.
