Faile

Updated: Feb 3, 2020

Faile occurred in 1999 when Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller started to collaborate different methods of screen printing such as mono and Lino printing, creating a system 'Like a band' with different elements adding up to create a piece of art, like the different instruments, their influence being different colours, advertising and elements of street art collaborated with old art such as old magazines creating a timeless piece.

The occurrence of faile started when they started to document different street art presented in America after moving there, and then tying all of the different elements together such as old magazine cutouts with new elements and layering them unto create a distorted image with multiple layering.

As well as screen printing methods, hand painting is also included in the prints that they produce to get delicate painting for different elements as well as ripping different layers to show different parts of each layers.

What also makes Faile Unique is their different uses of material, not just paper, such as blocks and even arcade machines. Their use of blocks was so that they can deconstruct like 'lego' to create mixed up pieces of art unlike what you can do on a canvas. This particularly interests me as I Like to create art on things that isn't paper, such as shoes or other clothing as I feel that art can be more appreciated in places it may not be expected to be, like the side of a building.

Their use of 'collage' is something I would like to take from Faile and use in my own work, as well as meaning behind the work they create, as their art pieces present pieces such as propaganda.
