For a part of our propaganda project we have to create a pamphlet which represents why we have picked our cause and also some information about it.
Today we experimented with how we could present this pamphlet in a creative way using card and paper etc to make elements of the pamphlet look 3D. This is a very useful skill to know especially when doing digital tasks such as 3D design and gaming design, therefore, I was interested to gain as much knowledge as I could in this session.
The session started with us finding images and text that we wanted to use for our mock ups.
as this was an experiement, I wanted to keep my designs simple therefore I played around with an alien design and text stating 'aliens are real'
We then proceded to trace our drawings onto card. this is where we learned how to make our designs look 3D by only cutting out certain elements of the card. I played around with only cutting half of the letters so that the letters were sticking out on the other side of the card. At first, this was quite challenging as cutting a small surface area of card can be tricky, but once completed the results were successful. I then experimented with different lighting so that the words that I had cut out projected onto a background behind this. This method extrememly interested me as I am very fond of projection art and I feel that in the future I will use this method when creating my actual pamphlet.
After we had understood how to manipulate paper and card to make 3d models, we then started to experiment with string to create 3D models. To do this, we got three pieces of cardboard and stuck them together so that the structure was like an open planned box, having a bottom and two sides, we then drew on the pieces of cardboard. For this task I wanted to play around with the idea of using string to create patterns, so create backgrounds, therefore I played around with different shapes and patterns. I placed holes symetrically over the three pieces of cardboard and then started to sew the string through the holes I had made, which created a 3D pattern. I Used different coloured string to give the artwork more atmosphere.
Overall, I found this task to be useful as It made me think more about the dynamics of an object and also how to construct a 3D shape from all aspects. I know that I can use the skills I have learned in the future within my 3D design and also witihin my propaganda project. I have obtained many different ideas for how I will now create my pamphlet and I am excited to see what I create.
