Altered States - Mishko Response Developed

Updated: Dec 30, 2020

Following up from the liquified text that I created, I thought it would be interesting to experiment with the liquified text moving within film. I would potentially like to use this in my final film for altered states with the title of the song, therefore I decided to experiment.

I wanted the text to not only move, but also to change colour. I also wanted the background to move too.

I found this edit to actually be quite simple to make.

First, I got the film footage that I wanted in the background and saved that into premier pro. Then, I went into photoshop and changed the hue and saturation of the image 6 times to show the text in different colours. I then took these images into premier pro, put all the images into a sequence and put a crossfade in between the photos. This made the text change colour smoothly and gradually.

Once I had done the colour, it was time to experiment with the movement of the text. to do this, I used the 'turbulent displace' tool in premier pro. I made the turbulent twist and started a path for the twist. as the timeline progressed, I added keyframes to make the text move in a liquid sort way, twisting.

I then simply placed the moving text over the film that I wanted on the bottom. I found the film to be too fast at first, so I changed the speed of the base video to 60% which I feel made the whole video look a lot better as the background wasn't moving too fast.

To finish off the video, I added some music to make the video more atmospheric.

Overall, I am pleased with the outcome, next time I would like to play more with the movement of the text, and make it more liquified. I am not sure yet how I will achieve this but I will do some research into it moving forward.
